The Del Mar Race Track Summer Meet is heading toward the finish line. If you haven’t had the chance to partake in one of the area’s most iconic past times, now is your chance. Closing day is on September 5, but there are quite a few events to attend before it shuts down for the season.

Del Mar’s closing weekend will be packed with multiple races, live entertainment, and delicious local spirits and cuisine.

On Friday, gates open at 1:30pm for eight races in the I’m Smokin’ Stakes. First post is at 3:30pm. There will be live entertainment featuring The Wailers for this week’s 4 O’Clock Friday Summer Concert Series. Concerts are free with admission if you are in the gates before the start of the last race.

The Del Mar Debutante (Gr. I) and the Del Mar Juvenile Turf will be held on Saturday. Gates open at 12 noon with first post at 2:00pm. Saturday’s events feature live music from Chromeo, local cuisine and spirits at the Seaside Cabana, and free family events like pony rides and magic shows. Before all of this kicks off, early risers can enjoy Daybreak at Del Mar which includes an early breakfast while watching the morning workouts.

Sunday will be quite the big day for the track. Gates open at 12 noon and first post is at 2:00pm. The John C. Mabee Stakes (Gr. II) and the Del Mar Derby (Gr. II) will be held this Sunday. Also, Ballast Point’s 20th Anniversary Festival featuring The Roots begins at 4:00pm, right after the last race in the Seaside Concert area.

Monday, September 5, is Closing Day featuring the Pirate’s Bounty Stakes, the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf, and the Del Mar Futurity (Gr. 1). Gates open at 12 noon and the first post is at 2:00pm.
